What is limestone flooring?
Limestone is abundant from many countries with various compressions and sediments, it is a sedimentary rock that’s made up of a combination of calcium carbonate minerals, including aragonite and calcite. Our selected range is chosen with higher mineral content of limestone meaning it’s both durable and comfortable underfoot, making it perfect to enhance any home.
Limestone is found in many different quarries, and it has different grades and selections so its colour, cut, finish and size can vary depending on the type. Some of the different types of limestone tiles include tumbled, etched, brushed, half honed and falmed. At Natural Stone & Tiles, we mainly sell tumbled limestone floor tiles, which are perfect for achieving an aged look known as tumbled, however we offer other options. All our limestone tiles are cut from blocks and boulders, which have been tested for density.
Why use limestone flooring in your home?
It’s durable
Limestone floor tiles are some of the most sought after options on the market. Forged through thousands of years of pressure and heat, the layered nature of limestone means that it doesn’t break easily if fitted correctly, ei using the correct adhesive and preparation to avoid stress movement.
It’s low maintenance when cared for properly
On its own, limestone is not water resistant, which is why tiles made from this material must be sealed, there are many types of sealant in the market and we recommend stainproof sealant, this sealant needs to be cared for to ensure it continues to do its job, however if the limestone is sealed properly it will last generally up to 15 years with 2-3 coats depending on the type of limestone. Make sure you mop or wipe up any spills quickly with warm water and never use bleach or acidic cleaners on your flooring.
It looks great
Because limestone is made up of a variety of minerals, it comes in various colours, so you have a lot of options to explore here. Just some examples of the colours available include beige, cream, yellow, black and grey. Limestone tiles can help to increase the value of your home, but more importantly they create an air of luxury and class.
Why choose limestone from us?
Not only is limestone a great choice for kitchens, bathrooms and hallways, but you can make full use of limestone on the outside of your home too! Commonly used to create stunning patios and walkways, limestone tiles can really help you open up your space and create a smooth transition between the indoors and out.
